Linden Lab is developing a variety of application program interfaces, including network protocols, REST documentation, and web capabilities, that will allow interested developers to communicate with the Second Life Grid software infrastructure. We think this extensibility will enable you to explore your creativity and opportunity to an even greater extent than you've experienced before!
At this time, the API suites are in the early planning and design stages. Further detail will be posted here as we progress in development. APIs that are in beta or production are described below. Important terms of use apply to any use of the APIs, including beta and production APIs.
Exchange Risk API (Production)
This API is available only to operators of websites that facilitate the exchange of Linden Dollars for any real
currency. The Exchange Risk API will return a binary value that expresses the risk that Linden Lab associates with any
particular transaction. Your exchange is not required to use the Exchange Risk API. However, all exchanges of Linden
Dollars for real currency that are not conducted on LindeX are subject to the policy posted here.
If you would like to receive the information
necessary to use the Exchange Risk API, please send your name, Second Life account name, and website URL that
facilitates your exchange, to
Registration API (Beta)
This API will allow you to register users of Second Life from your own website, and set those users to a default login orientation experience and estate that you operate. Important limitations and conditions apply, including the requirement that you make clear that users registering for Second Life account through your website are establishing a relationship with Linden Lab, separate from their relationship with you. The Registration API is currently in beta testing. To submit a request to participate in the Registration API program, fill out the Registration API Request Form. We will contact you by email once your application has been reviewed.
For additional information about the Registration API, see the Second Life Wiki Registration API pages.
Please note that all participants in our API programs must abide by our API Terms Of Use.
