Government Uses of Virtual Worlds

Government presences on the Second Life Grid

Many government agencies and departments, including military organizations, at all levels around the world use virtual worlds on the Second Life Grid™ for a variety of programs and activities.

For instance, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) have a facility that provides interactive educational demonstrations about the ocean and weather. Visitors can ride submarines, experience a tsunami, or check out real-time weather maps.
